This passage has to be
recited 108 times after the reading of the Japji Sahib & completed
in the early morning (before sunrise & before dawn light starts)
continuously for a period of 40 days. It is good if you keep some water
in a copper lota & sprinkle it in
the house as well as drink from it on the 40th day. Take care that the
water does not dry up during the period that it is being recited. If it
does, keep refilling. Of course, there are other passages with similar
effect in the Guru Granth Sahib too.
The sound of these shlokas has been rendered in Gurmukhi & it is best to learn the shloka you desire to read from the priest in the nearby Gurudwara. This way the flow & accent of the verse can be easily grasped. Also, the shlokas need to be recited after the full recitation of the 5 prayers given for the Sikhs early in the morning. In the least, the Japji Sahib should definitely be recited before reciting this verse 108 times. Water is to be kept in a copper vessel to sprinkle in the residence/ office area as per purpose of verse. In addition, this water is to be offered to those who seek to derive benefit from this verse. The verse has to repeated at a fixed time & finished before sunrise as well as before light of dawn daily for 40 days without a gap at the same place. Reciting at the banks of a river (as in the case of a mantra) or at a holy place multiplies the effects further.
